My Midwest Adventures

Greetings from Omaha, Nebraska! Wanna know a secret? Before I moved here from New York City two years ago, I couldn’t locate Omaha on a map. I’m an East Coast girl at heart who happens to have a terrible sense of geography! But when you marry a man in the military, you sometimes wind up living far from your family in a city completely unfamiliar to you.

My husband, J, and I are about to celebrate our one year anniversary. In many regards, we’ve been living the typical newlywed life. We recently bought our first house and adopted a dog, Briscoe, from the local Humane Society. However, our first year as Mr. and Mrs. has been full of challenges that most newlyweds don’t have to face, the biggest being that J has been deployed for five out of the last 12 months. To make matters more complicated, I quit my job before our wedding to pursue other interests that I hope to blog about here.

I started my blog, Somewhere in Middle America (named after a line from the Counting Crows song “Omaha”), so that my family and friends back East could follow my adventures in the Midwest. It has turned into an outlet for me to share exciting news, to vent when I’m feeling stressed, to promote the people who inspire me and to get feedback on my photography. For someone who started out in college as a journalism major, it’s so rewarding to have an outlet to write on a daily basis. Sometimes I’m amazed that people actually read it.

I can’t wait to start blogging for EAD Living and hope you enjoy my posts about life as a newlywed who is decorating a house, training a dog, learning to be organized, attempting to be crafty and starting a business all while her husband is sometimes half-way around the world!

we heart your comments!

Wow – can’t wait to read more! My husband travels quite a bit for his job, and I too am trying to keep the house running by myself most of the time. Add on to that 4 dogs + 1 foster dog… and you get the picture.
