New on EADL - book reviews and an Amazon store!

I read a lot, so I thought it would be fun to share with you guys some of my favorite reads by starting some book reviews.  The store is chock full of my favorite chick lit, women’s literature, tv on dvd, and more. Everything in the store is something that I have read/watched/used and loved - and I’m going through each day to add more!  One thing to know up front: most of my reading isn’t exactly fine literature - I’m much more about books that click on an emotional level or are just plain cute (and so you don’t have to ask, yes, I loved the Twilight books.  The movie, not so much…).  You can also enter Amazon directly through the store, bypassing all of my pink and blue books.  :-)

First up in my book reviews, the paperback I read last week on the way to the National Stationery Show - Vision in White (The Wedding Quartet, Book 1) by Nora Roberts.  I know, I know - I see a bride and I just have to pick up the book!

The basic plot is this: four childhood best friends grow up to open an all-inclusive wedding venue, Vows.  One is a planner, one a baker, another a florist, and the last, a photographer (anyone else thinks this sounds remarkably like that short-lived David E Kelley TV series ‘The Wedding Bells’)? Vision in White is the first in a quartet of books - if I was a betting gal, I’d say the books will be told from each of the best friends’ viewpoints.  Vision was told from the photographer’s - her name is Mac and she is unlucky in love… until the brother of a Vows bride comes into the picture that is.

My bottom line?  A worthy two hours of my time and I will keep reading the remainder of the series.  The book was completely predictable, as most worthy chick lit is, and Nora Roberts took the time to build characters that I will care about and want to read about again.

Anyone else read Vision in White or other Nora Roberts books?  I’d love to know if the non-bride books are worth my two hours!

E.

Side note: I passed my copy to Cyd, so hopefully she’ll weigh in with her opinion too.  I always like to pass on my books unless it’s just something I can’t bear to part with.  Perhaps we should think of a way to incorporate that here - a book exchange of some form?  Thoughts?

we heart your comments!

I go for the ‘really deep thinking’ books, too…..either that or the cutesy fun reads. Nothing like two extremes for me. Great idea! I could do some book reviews, too…

I read it as well - like you I pick up most books with a bride on the front! I agree - it is worth a read. The characters were enjoyable and not over the top.

I must say, I’m a Nora addict. My most recent read was a trilogy called Blood Brothers I believe. I, like you, like the way she builds characters. I really enjoy her J.D. Robb books - her pen name. It’s an ongoing series - maybe 20+ books so far about a homicide cop in the future and her extremely wealthy and fabulously good looking husband. They’re quite good! It’s the In Death series by JD Robb. :)

@Britt - thanks! I’ll check out that In Death series - it sounds great!

@Beth - you’d think I’d want to read about anything BUT weddings but no. I see a bride and I’m hooked immediately!

@julia - yay! Go for it!

You did in fact pass it along to me and I did in fact read the entire thing on one very long train ride home from NYC. :-)

I actually typically steer very clear of anything romance novel-like. I tend toward big, thick, meaty literature - you know, 1000+ pages that takes you a month to devour. At any rate, I was surprisingly charmed by this one and I’ll definitely keep my eyes open for the the next 3, though I doubt I’d buy them, but only because I’m cheap! ;-) I’d LOVE the idea of a book swap of some kind on EADL. How do we make it happen? I’ll even help coordinate if you want! xo

You know I’ve not liked Nora in the past but this one caught my eye at the bookstore. I’ll have to give it a try.

MY fave fave fave chick lit author is Mary Balogh—she writes THE BEST historical romance novels. I go through her books like candy!

I’m a romance novel FIEND and I love the idea of book reviews!

I’ve read other Nora Roberts books and they have all been pretty good!

Based on your recommendation I went to Books A Million yesterday and ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting! I loved it…it was predictable, but still really good and a great light weekend read! I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the rest of the books in the quartet, too. Keep up the awesome book recommendations!

I have been eyeballing this book for a bit now and I’m glad to read it was good. I didn’t know it was told from a photographer’s standpoint so now I’ll have to read it!

I also LOVE the “In Death” series as well as almost all of Nora Roberts series. The solo ones tend to be hit and miss for me. I review like mad on Amazon… and love Amazon so thanks for the link to the store!!

I’ve read pretty much everything that Nora Roberts has written, and loved it. My sister and I both devour the books. Maybe I’ve outgrown her style, but this book was my least favorite. It felt forced. I really love her other series though.
