Honeymoon 2.0

Growing up, I never fantasized about my wedding. I didn’t have the slightest idea what style dress I wanted to wear, what types of flowers I wanted to use or what song I wanted to dance to with my father. Instead I daydreamed about my honeymoon. For as long as I can remember, it was my dream to go galavanting around Italy with my new husband. Happily, my wish came true. For ten days J and I experienced all of the culture, food, shopping and sightseeing that Venice, Florence and Rome had to offer. Needless to say, we were exhausted by the end of trip!
Before we boarded our flight back to the States, we agreed that on our next vacation we’d do nothing but sit on the beach or by a pool, reading and relaxing. We’d have no itinerary, no photos to snap, no trains to catch. So this week, to celebrate our one year anniversary, J and I are heading to Phoenix for 5 days of absolutely nothing. Why Phoenix? For starters, there are direct flights offered from Omaha, a luxury not available to all destinations. Also, as I was planning our romantic getaway, it was the start of the swine flu hysteria, which meant that Mexico was out of the question. It would take too long to fly to the Caribbean and would be too expensive to go to Hawaii. But what really sealed the deal was the incredible deal we got at the The Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa. Did you know that certain hotels offer government/military discounts?
For this trip we’re not bringing our digital SLR; we don’t want to spend our time behind the lens of a camera. We want to live in the moment, to relax in the moment. We’re counting on our bathing suits, some library books and plenty of SPF to get us through the week. Sunny and hot Arizona, here we come!

Oh, this sounds heavenly. We did this sort of thing at around year 3 on a trip to Cozemel. We did nothing taxing, except for the fact than my husband would set a wake up call at 6:00AM to go put our towels under an umbrella to claim our choice spot right btw the beach and the pool. Then he promptly come back to the room to sleep in the rest of the morning. We’d meander down to read and lounge for the rest of the day. Aaaahhhh.
