Just wanted to say that I love the Twilight series (but hate the movie) and I also love the Anne Rice series. The two are definitely not mutually exclusive. I read the Vampire Chronicles about 10 years ago (in the 10th grade) and fell in love with vampires. But, it is a very adult read. If you like the Vampire Chronicles, try her series about Witches. The first book is titled "The Witching Hour." They are better than the Vampire Chronicles, IMHO.

I totally felt the opposite about Twilight. I felt the books repeating the same themes was very true to life of any relationship. How often to you argue about the same things with your husband? Every relationship has some consistent hot points. So that felt right to me. Even Bella's whiney nature seemed to fit in with regular teenage angst.

The movie was pure aweful to me. Taking all the bad and leaving all the good in the novels.

On the other hand, I feel the True Blood series to be so much more interesting than the books.

I LOVED The Vampire Diaries as a teen, LOVED. When Twilight came out I did the same thing, kept thinking how they are SO not even near the quality of TVD. The new books however SUCK. Don't read! I read the first one and was gutted by how horrible it was. It ruined the previous books for me.

Christopher Moore has 2 vampire books-Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck. Both are very humorous and not like Twilight at all!

I, like many, have read the Twilight series. I also read all of the True Blood books and they get SOOOO good. Its interesting to see what the show changes from the books, it keeps it interesting though! I'm currently into book 4 of the House of Night series and am loving this one as well. I'll have to look into the others you mentioned!
