I'm going through this now too and it is super challenging! It's hard to suggest to your sig-o that his 10 sets of speakers are a little irrational when you have boxes of fabric that you swear you are going to get around to completing projects with! I have decided to make every effort to get rid of the stuff that really needs to go in hopes that he will make the same honest effort. Then we will go from there...

Oh man, I am going through this RIGHT NOW. We closed on our house June 30 and the big move is Saturday. The thing I'm struggling with isn't necessarily the merging of furniture or things of that nature, but that his taste in decoration and mine differ completely. I want the home to have a contemporary feel, and he wants it to have a country feel. I've got my framed modern art, and he's got statues of pigs wrapped in the American flag. What the heck are we to do? HAHA

I'm a packrat too, but in my mind I'm somehow someday going to be able to sell it as opposed to adding tons of trash to landfills. At least that's how I'm justifyingvthings. We're working through our stuff as we can and have a decent load to donate right now. I didn't help that as soon as we moved in to out home, both sets of parents dropped off tons of boxes of our old stuff that we clearly need to get rid of because we previously didn't miss it...but I've been avoiding opening them and going through the memories. It didn't help that my packrat MIL also stealthily left us with a lot of THEIR old books as well!

It was difficult for me who had more stuff to make room. Hubby moved into my apartment. I long for a place that's big enough for all our stuff. Our electronic obsession is out of control.
I think that it's important for both parties to get to keep some stuff. Communication and comprise!
