It drove me crazy, falling on my head. And, I'd always be "arranging" it, just so.... But!! Deciding on a headboard is fairly easy. Look at styles you like, and then think of the practicality of them. I like our upholstered headboard because I like to read in bed. It provides some soft support. That will also help you determine the height of the headboard. As far as the dark walls go, though, I love them. Gorgeous. But I think you're right in that the floors add to the overall "look".
