Stuff-itis

Welcome to the EAD Living blog! We are so excited to have you here. If you are a new visitor, we'd love for you to subscribe to our RSS feed and visit our sister site, EAD Weddings. Thanks for visiting and we hope you come back soon!

Chances are you know someone like this: a hoarder, someone who keeps every single piece of crap stored away ‘just in case’ and has difficulty purging the old junk from their lives. As you can probably tell by my tone I am NOT a hoarder. In fact, I’m quite the opposite. I get a serious thrill out of cleaning out my closet regularly and donating a bunch of ill-fitting and outdated clothing to Goodwill. LOVE it. Even better? Going through our little storage closet every now and then and paring down our junk to the ‘must have’ items. It’s just so freeing and liberating and cleansing. Plus, when you live in a place that is less than 1000 square feet, something has to give. I like to think that donating items we do not use makes us thoughtful people but in reality, it does a whole lot for my sanity, too. I cannot stand clutter, you guys. If you don’t use it give it to someone who will, right?

My husband, dear readers, has a serious case of Stuff-itis. It’s a serious condition in which his closet is exploding with items he hasn’t worn in years. His shoe collection may look impressive and yet over half of them are collecting dust. I really don’t think it bothers him in the slightest, either, which of course I cannot understand.

His newest great idea stemmed from one amazing hotel breakfast buffet. We made our own fabulous Belgian waffles and all of a sudden, BAM: “Baby, don’t you think we should get a Belgian waffle maker?” Seriously. I guarantee that would be another large, clunky kitchen applicance that we use one time and then let it collect dust. I think a waffle maker would be right up there with a sandwhich maker: seems like a great idea at the time and then it loses it’s luster forever.

So I ask you, do you own a waffle maker? And if so, do you use it?

Also, does anyone else live with someone suffering from Stuff-itis? Don’t you worry that you’ll wake up one day 30 years from now and be that couple who can’t walk out of their front door because of all the hideous knick-knacks clogging the hallways? And the attic will surely fall onto our heads and kill us all, right?

Perhaps I’m overreacting, but I’m working on embracing my husband’s Stuff-itis. So help me God…

we heart your comments!

We have a waffle maker and we use it about once a month! We use it as a fun excuse to have friends over for breakfast! I was also skeptical about having another appliance, but we love it. It’s a treat on the weekends!

We have a waffle maker that gets used on rare occasion. It was a gift, and I will say I used it more when we first got it. It does make yummy waffles though, and it is pretty small. Hmmm, waffles for dinner tonight sounds pretty good! :-)

I totally agree with you about bulky appliances that take up space and collect dust. I do own a waffle iron but I don’t use it that often. However, if you want to make waffles at home there is no other way. Sandwiches on the other hand can be made without a sandwich maker. Ask yourself how often you want to eat waffles at home? My husband is totally the same way. I have to go in and raid his closet every year and it’s very painful.

I’m a purger, too! And my man is a hoarder…ugh!

When we moved in together, we had not one, but TWO waffle makers. The best part, they were both his! hahaah WHY?!!!

We gave one to his brother and kept one and never really thought about it as it sat collecting dust. Then, about a year ago, he got this big idea to make waffles. And they were amaaaaazing. It’s become his specialty - he adds vanilla and spices. YUM! We use it at least twice a month and I couldn’t be happier :)

Ha! We DO have a waffle maker, but it was a very thoughtful gift. You see, Matt LOVES waffle ice cream sandwiches from the annual fair, and so his aunt and uncle purchased us a waffle maker, waffle mix, and ice cream one year for Christmas. Isn’t that sweet? Now, have we ever used it? Maybe once, when we were excited about ice cream sandwiches. :)

I tend to hang on to things, but nearly as bad as my husband. Dear Lord can that man keep stuff! We just went through all of our closets about six months ago, but I’m thinking it’s near time to do it again. Don’t want everything to build back up!

I have a case of Stuff-itis AND a waffle maker. I use it though.

We also have a quesadilla maker…

No waffle maker but we both tend to horde things til I get tired of the mess and haul a bunch of stuff to the Goodwill. I think that might happen soon. We have 3 blenders.

I too have this stuffitis disease (no waffle iron though). However, I am moving in the next couple of weeks and I am resolute that it stops now. Haven’t used it in a year and don’t need it for IRS purposes? It’s gone. Easier said than done - but it WILL happen. : )

I use my waffle iron all the time… but I am completely against other ridiculous unitasking kitchen gadgets like avocado slicers or pineapple corers.

We have one of the Foreman grills that came with waffle-iron plates, so we have the option of making waffles without having to give up too much space in the kitchen!

I grew up with a father who is a crazy hoarder. As in you can’t walk through his garage anymore it’s so full. I am a purger because I don’t want that to ever happen to me! I find so much joy in going to visit my parents on garbage/recycling day. Goodwill loves us I think.
