My sentimental side says to get exactly the same thing (since he picked exactly what I would’ve wanted anyway!)…but my practical side agrees with Jessie (and I’ve only been married for 3 months!). Take a portion of the money and buy a nice bold — and perhaps sparkly — wedding band and keep the rest of the cash for something you actually need. Or take a big trip with you and the husband…make a memory rather than buying stuff.

Since it’s not the ring you actually got engaged with, there won’t be the look-at-your-hand-and-sigh squishy feeling anymore. It’ll just be another pretty piece of jewelry.

I would probably pocket the money, and buy a giant sparkly ring from a costume-jewelery store. The money is better off being used as a down-payment on a house or for expanding the budget on a remodel… but that’s just my jaded opinion after 11 years of marriage and current lust for a sub-zero fridge.

I think I’d stick with my same ring but maybe upgrade from white gold to platinum which I think about occasionally.

I must say though – I love the combo of the two rings above!

Option C! I love my ring, but I do wish it had more detail to it. I think my husband was intimidated by all the options (and my picky-ness), so he got me a gorgeous solitaire. And it’s lovely. But if I had a chance to put the ring insurance to good use, I would look for something with more personality and style.

Although I’m quite content with the size of my ring, I think I would upgrade my rock, if I could, and get an entirely different design. I think it would be too sad to have a duplicate of the original ring–it would be a constant reminder that I lost the first one. Plus, change can be fun sometimes!

I would want a diamond of the same, size, clarity, etc. As identical to the original as possible. We’ve had some trouble with the setting (we’ve replaced two of the four prongs) so I might look into a new setting, but it would still be plain and diamondless as was the original. But I’m not one of those people who ever considered an upgrade. I always wanted to keep my original ring.

It is so sad about your ring, but just shows that insurance is very important!

Did you have your ring insured? Or was it covered under something else?
