Stockholm is such a lovely city – definitely my second-favorite stop on our Baltic Cruise (after St. Petersburg). Unfortunately we didn’t have a lot of time in Stockholm, because the subway was shut down due to a fire. We did get to explore the Gamla Stan (Old Town), which was lovely. There was a particularly cute pet shop that looked to have lots of toys; it was unfortunately closed or Charlie would have a Stockholm squeakie toy right now!
The most interesting site that we visited in Stockholm was the Vasa Museum. The Vasa is a 17th century ship that sunk immediately after sailaway. The ship was almost fully recovered and is housed in its own museum. The detail on the ship is unbelievable, but it’s so tall and narrow you can see how it sank!
Loved what we saw of the city; sad it was a cruise port and therefore we had so little time! Next time I want to spend a few nights there and explore the lakefront area and visit more of the parks and museums, as well as have time to visit the shops and cafes we missed.
You can find Feisty’s recap of Stockholm here, including a photo of the impossible-to-find bus stop by the cruise port for those of you visiting by ship!
