A Foodie Check-in

I'm a newlywed, social worker, and graduate student living the good life in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a California girl who's lived in Nebraska, New York, and Oregon, and I can't get enough of Google Reader, my rescue dog Oliver, farmer's markets, and Thai food. I am an amateur cook, gardener, and photographer, and love to find ways to combine the three. Oh, and I enjoy making lists, can you tell? Visit me at my blog, Playing House.

Hello EAD friends! Hope you’re all having a great week.

I wanted to do a little check-in to say hi and see if there’s anything food-related on your minds these days. I would love, love, love to hear what kinds of things (favorite ingredients, genre of food, type of meal, or anything kitchen/food-related) you’d like to see here. What are you in the mood for? Doesn’t have to be a recipe, it could be a topic, process, or method. I share a lot of content on EAD from my personal blog, picking posts that I think appeal to a relatively wide audience, but I realized that I’ve never asked you what you like to eat.

So, have at it.. can I make something for you? Please don’t be shy, I’m a people pleaser and thrive on requests!

And… because I wouldn’t leave you without some sweetness, here’s a link to a recipe from Bakerella, one of my favorite food blogs, for Oreo Truffles. As you can see, it made quite a beautiful mess in my kitchen.

  1. You have the most impeccable timing. I would dearly love to read about some of your favorite “30 minutes or less” type recipes – stuff that is super quick and easy to make, that also tastes great.

    Thanks!
    Joy

  2. I LOVE Bakerella! She is SO talented. I love to cook too but lately I have been desperately trying to make homemade VEGETARIAN marshmallows with absolutely no luck. I’m sure thats not really widely appealing, but if you knew the secret to that I would be forever grateful.

  3. @Joy: Thanks for the suggestion… I’m on it!

@Kelly: I love Bakerella too, I kinda want to be her when I grow up. I was just poking around trying to find some useful info for you. Have you tried using vegan gelatin by the company Natural Desserts? I read that it’s sold at Whole Foods, and it looks like you can also order it here: http://bit.ly/9YhVE6

Everything I read about using agar agar as a gelatin sub looked like a massive failure. I hope that helps, if not let me know and I’ll do some more research!

I would like to second Joy’s comment, and add a bit more. I would love to see some inexpensive healthy recipes…like less than $5 a meal for two.
