Gallery walls have been in my inspiration folder for quite some time however I have yet to get up the courage to create one. There are so many options for frames and mats and layout that I quickly find myself overwhelmed before I really begin. And thus after many months after moving into our current place we have bare walls.
So I have been working up the courage to actually begin the process of picking out frames for the prints that I have been collecting and filling our bare wall space. The layout I am not worried about as nail holes can easily be filled. It is the frames that get me! I used to keep all my frames black so that it would be easy to add new ones but I am finding myself very drawn to a more ecclectic collection.

The collection of frames with various finishes gives both of these a warmth and lived in vibe that I love. However I am leaning towards having more family photos mixed in with prints and wall art.

Ours will be located behind our sofa and this very light and bright gallery wall has me drooling.

I know I have heard many times over that keeping the frames or the matting the same color or pattern is an easy way to keep the grouping cohesive. But yet there is something so homey and lived in about those that mix it up a bit.
So what do you think? Keep the frames all one color or mix it up? If you mix it up any thoughts on how you keep it cohesive?

I love all of these! I also have a pile of frames waiting to be hung gallery-style … I think for me I’m waiting because I need a few smaller pieces to incorporate. But either way, that bare wall sure is glaring at me!

I played it safe and used identical frames and mats, of various sizes. Maybe next time I’ll be more adventurous!
