This was our second married Christmas and our second year splitting the holiday between the east coast and the west coast — my parents live in central Pennsylvania, and Nick’s parents live in southern California. I’m not sure that I’ll ever get used to palm trees and sunshine and sandals in December, but I’ll admit that it was nice to escape the bitter cold winter of the east coast.
We visited La Jolla and Oceanside. We walked along the water at Seaside Village and strolled through beautiful Balboa Park.
We gawked over the Hotel Del Coronado and dipped our toes in the Pacific Ocean.
We saw San Diego by boat, and we drank margaritas and ate guacamole in Old Town.
We also spent a day at the Wild Animal Park where we saw the sweetest giraffes and a baby elephant that was born the day before.
On our final day in San Diego, we soaked up the sun poolside and watched a spectacular sunset from Double Peak Park.
We’re so thankful that we were able to spend Christmas with both our east coast and west coast families.
How do you split your holidays? Did you spend your Christmas in the sun or in the snow?

We got married 12/20/09, and we honeymooned over the holidays, so we missed the traditional Christmas last year. This year we drove from our home in Florida to my parents’ home in Texas and then to his parents’ home in Nebraska. We split equal time between the families, and although it was 3,000 miles in 12 days, it was completely worth it. We got balmy temps in Texas and a blizzard in Nebraska.

I spent Christmas in California one year and loved it! I can’t decide if I like the magic of a snowy Christmas or the awesomeness of a warm one!
You two look adorable in that photo!
Very nice Christmas you had there. You two look so happy. I loved the photos you featured here – sunny Christmas. :)

I am from Chicago and live in San Diego. Its so weird but at the same time I can’t help but think of how much time I don’t spend shoveling snow.

Looks amazing! I have never ever spent holidays in a hot place, really. I don’t know if I’m just too traditional but I’m used to cold, snowy Christmas and I couldn’t have it any other way. You really seem to have enjoyed your holidays, though.
