Attempt at a new hobby
kawaii amigurumi *___*, originally uploaded by ::sämyii::. on Flickr
I’ve seen Amigurumi, the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures, at many of the craft fairs I’ve attended. They are ridiculously adorable. If I could, I would populate my house with them. Well, maybe, I won’t go THAT far. EAD writer, Tiffany has made quite a few of these cuties.{I first spotted them on her blog.} Patterns and ready-made amigurumi are available on our favorite site, …

Renegade Craft Fair
I am addicted to the new generation of craft fairs that have been springing up. First, I wanted to inform Chicago EAD readers that the Chicago Renegade Craft Fair is coming up.

September 12 + 13 from 11am – 7pm, on Division St. between Damen + Paulina.
For the last couple of years, they have been hosting shows in Brooklyn, Chicago, and San Francisco. They were having their first show in L.A. I was ecstatic. It is …

Have Large Dog, Would Love to Travel
Dottie tries to stowaway {from Author’s Personal Collection}
We are the owners of a large dog. Dottie is 70lbs to be exact. There are many restrictions for flying with large dogs, such as they are only flown when the outside temperatures are between 45 degrees and 85 degrees. When they are flown, they are placed in the cargo hold with the luggage. It’s a special section of the cargo hold, but it’s the cargo hold nonetheless. The thought of her being …

Fun Flip
I’m back from my blogging hiatus. Sorry for the disappearance. To make up for it, I have a product review. As with all my other reviews, I offer the standard disclaimer. I am not being paid by or am affiliated with the product being reviewed, etc. etc. So, on with the program. I have a review of the Flip Ultra Video Camera.
In the last couple of months, Flip Video cameras have been mentioned in several magazines and blogs such as …

Reading Materials
Self-portrait in a Hammock {From Author’s Personal Collection}
It’s Summer Time! Many are going on vacation or are simply having “staycations”. For me, this means my leisure reading increases. To keep up with my literary needs, I’ve tried two different websites. I’ve been using both for the last couple of months. I thought I would share my finds with EAD readers.
{Disclaimer: I am in not affiliated with either of these sites and I am not receiving any reimbursement for endorsement of …

Dining Alfresco
Watching a movie & Picnicking at Hollywood Forever Cemetery {From Author’s Personal Collection}
Memorial Day Weekend is upon us. Aside from a time for us to remember those who have died for our country, it is the unofficial start of summer in many locales. Summer for us means opportunities to dine alfresco. We picnic in the park, attend outdoor concerts, go camping, etc, etc. If there’s an opportunity to eat outdoors, we take it.
Rob and I picnicking at the Hollywood Bowl …

Unique L.A.: The Goods
This past Sunday I went to the Unique L.A. Independent Design and Gift Sale that I mentioned on my previous post. There was quite a few more vendors than the last event. The variety was astounding- Art, Apparel, Toys, Housewares, Jewelry and Stationery. You name it, they had it. It was great to buy items and meet the artists behind the items. I thought I’d share some of my faves.
The Poster List
Great, inexpensive posters for those with a sarcastic sense …

Garden: Container Gardens
Last summer, I discovered a love for growing herbs and flowers. Despite having limited space, we had a porch container garden. I’m not Martha Stewart, but I found it was a lot easier than I originally thought. As newbies to gardening, we went to our local Garden Center for guidance. This was the best course of action for us. I highly recommend this because your local Garden Center/Greenhouse has a wealth of knowledge about plants that grow best in your …

Green: CSA – Part 2
Basket of Goodies {photo from Author’s Personal Collection}
Sorry to have kept everyone in suspense. I had to go out-of-town and our first CSA delivery was delayed.
We decided our first foray into Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) would be with a farm called Re Rustica. Re Rustica is a farm located in Squaw Valley, California. We chose them based on the recommendation of a good friend. We also selected them because they don’t require us to work on the farm. As much …
