Travel: Greenwich & Hampton Court Palace
Today seems like a good day to torture E with some old travel photos, eh? ;) Today I’m thinking about London, but I’ll share some info about Greenwich and Hampton Court Palace with you since they’re just outside of London and are places with which not everyone is so familiar.
Greenwich
While planning our 2005 trip, I realized that I hadn’t yet visited Greenwich (”gren-itch,” not ”green-witch”). It’s in south-east London on the River Thames. It’s most famous for being the home to the …

Tips for Surviving IKEA
In honor of Elizabeth’s trip to IKEA yesterday, I’d like to share with you my tips for surviving your own trip to the home products retailer as it poses some very special issues.
1. Pre-shop online. This is probably my best tip, so I’m sharing it first. If you haven’t been to one before, be prepared to be overwhelmed no matter how well you’ve prepared. IKEA is ginormous. Seriously huge. If you go without having checked out what’s available via the …

Travel: Dublin
Having just returned from a trip to Germany, Czech Republic, and Austria, I’m thinking about past travels. One very fun place I’ve visited is Dublin.

Getting There
There are basically two options for getting to Dublin from the UK: the ferry or flying. Aer Lingus offers amazingly cheap flights (from £5 one way!) from London. RyanAir has flights from £.99 one way between London and Dublin; …

Decor: Cat houses
As you’ve probably guessed, I’m totally a cat person. We have two (we call them Boy and Beanie), and we love them dearly. I’ve lived with cats my whole life, so I’ve always been fascinated by people who incorporate things for their cats into their home decor. Here are a couple of really neat houses that have been designed especially with cats in mind.

Decor: Thrifty Decor Chic’s $20 sofa table
Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chic is always sharing creative ways to spruce up a home without spending too much cash. She recently posted a neat tutorial about how to make a sofa table for less than $20. Check it out!
P.S. Don’t you love how her cats like to get in the pictures? So cute!

Decor: Wall decals – what do you think?
I am really intrigued by wall decals. Although readily available (there are even some at Target), I think they’re still not overdone since I don’t know anyone who has one (you know that’s the most important criterion ;). They can be cheaper than a piece of art, and they’re totally different from something in a frame, which gives you the opportunity to introduce more variety in your home. Here are a few neat ones I spotted on etsy:

Decor: Girls just wanna have fun
I apparently can’t leave well enough alone – I had so much fun putting together the last two rooms that I wanted to do another one. Here’s another room idea for a girl who loves pink but is looking for something a little more modern than my last board.

Decor: Snips and snails, and puppy dog tails
This morning I gave you a room for a little girl who loves pink. This time, I’ve come up with a room for a little boy who loves cars.

Decor: A room for much more than a princess
A dear friend of mine is contemplating adoption. Specifically, she and her husband are considering adopting a 5 year old girl and 3 year old boy (siblings). My friends have the perfect house for kids – and even have to bedrooms ready to be turned into kids’ rooms. The little girl is very much in love with the color pink and playing princess. In honor of this little girl, here’s an inspiration board I put together for a room fit for …

Decor: Time for your spring tables!
Have you already begun displaying your spring decor on your dining room table? I was a little puzzled this year. I don’t remember what I’ve done in past years, so I didn’t already have a plan for what to do. To my husband’s dismay, I did a Google image search for Easter/spring table settings. I found these especially inspiring:
Here’s what I ended up with:
