Death by Baby Gear

Oh my word. I had such high hopes of remaining normal after having a baby. I committed to keeping all baby-related items in the nursery and my house that I’ve worked so hard on would remain an “adult house” and there would be no sign of baby outside of the nursery. Psha!

We’ve got the swing and the gym in the living room, the pack ‘n play in our bedroom (for when I’m getting ready in the mornings), bottles and the …

DIY Chalkboard Calendar

DIY Chalkboard Calendar

Posted 07/22/2009 by Ami in Crafts, Organization \ 7 comments

EADW contributor Juel is stopping by EADL today to share her DIY chalkboard calendar, inspired by (who else) Martha!

{ image from Martha }

Anyone else get Martha’s daily emails? Well, I stored this one in my “collection” a while back and I’ve been excited to do it ever since. We were in serious need of a calendar for our new house and so I decided to give it a shot!

It was rather time consuming but the most difficult part was making …

Space Makers

Much like fellow EAD Living contributor Erin, Evs and I currently reside in a home built nearly a century ago.  Our little cottage, constructed in the 1920s, is our dream first-home – one story, hardwood floors throughout, with modern updates but still maintaining that “vintage home” feel. As of now we rent, but are hoping to convince our landlord to sell in the next year or two so this gem will really be ours!

A home tour post is definitely in …

Compromise: The Merging of the Stuff

Compromise: The Merging of the Stuff

Posted 07/08/2009 by Erin in Newlywed Life, Organization \ 4 comments

When you get married you gain a partner, a husband, a best friend, a new family… and lots of stuff.

We closed on our house and moved out of our bachelor and bachelorette pads about five months before our wedding in May 2008. We had each been out of grad school and law school for three years so we each had lots of furniture and plenty of stuff to fill our own houses. We moved into a precious bungalow that was …

Cookbooks for Posterity

A few years ago, I started keeping a fine-point sharpie in my kitchen. Whenever I make something from a cookbook, I use the sharpie to write the date next to the recipe, and to note any changes I made or comments I have (and, in several cases, “DO NOT MAKE AGAIN”). Now I’ll always know that I made this cheesecake (quite an adventure, but that’s a story for another time…) on my husband’s birthday last year.

It’s a simple gesture that’s …

How to Travel for Two Weeks in a Carry-On: Part 1

Posted 06/02/2009 by Liene in Life, Organization, Travel \ 14 comments

I travel quite a bit for work and this year alone will be on a plane more than 50 times.  Over the years, I have learned several tricks that will help you travel practically, yet with style, so that you don’t look like a bohemian backpacker.  Unless of course, bohemian backpacker is your style of choice, in which case, peace out.

One of the things I can do quite well is travel for two weeks with just the two allotted carry-ons …

Now You’re Married: Can Your Home Still be Organized and Tidy?

Fortunately, the answer to the above question is “yes.”  But it’s not easy.

I’m like Charlotte York. And I don’t mean in the adorable, head-band wearing, beautiful, and eternally optimistic way. I am like Charlotte York in the I-am-rigid-and-like-for-my-home-to-be-pristine way. I’m probably the world’s worst roommate– if you’re messy. You’d love me if you’re tidy! Remember on Sex and the City when Charlotte and Harry finally got married and she was so happy? Her only problem was that Harry’s home habits didn’t …

Organize: Simple Solutions

Posted 05/07/2009 by Rebekah in Decor, Organization \ 2 comments

The hubby sent over a link (this is a common occurrence) for a device that blew my mind. It was part of the “Help for Harried Moms” gallery on This Old House.  It’s called the Smart Shopper, and it creates a printable list of groceries.  It’s magnetic, so you can stick it to your fridge.  Yay!

Smart Shopper

It’s kind of pricey ($150) but so worth it if your mom/sister/wife is a gadget freak like me.

I also saw this wall hook …

Organize: Use Those Doors!

I’m fighting off a cold, hoping it doesn’t get the best of me before my flight to NYC this evening.  E and I are on a super secret blogging trip, we’ll post all the details on Monday.  In the meantime check out these really cool door use ideas from Chez Larsson.
