See, I don’t *always* think about creating things for weddings. Sometimes I’m thinking about other things, like Christmas cards! I also realized that A. and I haven’t posted any of our own creations yet. So, in the spirit of it being the holidays, I give you my Christmas calendars, circa 2005.
A few fun how-tos:
- The “Liberty” on July’s calendar was created using one of my favorite techniques. You will need some Liquitex slow dry blending gel medium and a foam brush to spread, a brayer, and a piece of unbleached muslin. Print a photo in mirror image on plain paper with an inkjet printer. Spread a thick layer of gel medium over the unbleached muslin with the foam brush, press the image ink side down onto the medium and use the brayer to roll the paper flat. In about 20 minutes, pull the paper back and your image has transferred onto the fabric! Voila!
- April’s Paris scheme was created using three different stamps – this is an easy technique, just remember if you are embossing to emboss each image as you stamp, otherwise the ink will dry. The color in April is chalk, but it’s made to look like watercolor by using a paintbrush to rub water over the color.
- I used different fonts on each – it was a cheap and easy way to make each month unique!
- Stickles glitter is everywhere! It’s easy to use, not messy at all, and comes in millions of colors.
- Whenever possible I used punches and stamps as these are free to repeat. This holds for cardmaking, scrapbooking, and invitation design. It also made the calendar look somehow cohesive even though each month was an entirely different process.
I hope you enjoy the break from weddings (but just for one post, I promise).
:) E.
