Wedding Day Details: The Ceremony!

bosch0518

Once we got up to the altar, my sister and dave’s younger brother shared a reading from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin:

Love is a temporary madness,it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.
Because this is what love is.
Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement,
it is not the promulgation of eternal passion.
That is just being “in love” which any fool can do.
Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away,
and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.
Those that truly love, have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.

As soon as dr. dave and I heard this reading, we knew we had to have it in our ceremony.  Not only is it sweet, it spoke to both our hearts and tied in to our Oak tree invitations and programs…we couldn’t have planned that if we tried!

We chose to write and read our own vows to each other.  We kept them short and sweet, and didn’t hear what the other wrote until the ceremony.  Here are Dave’s:

Today is the best day of my life, and I love you. I love your passion for life, love, and happiness.  I love the way you look at me and smile.  I love your sincerity and cherish your gentle nature. I know that you are my soul mate, and I promise to stand up for you, I promise to respect you and be faithful to you. I promise to always be your pas de deux partner. (A little homage to my ballet past, thank you very much!)

And mine:

The best part in looking back at all the photos is seeing people’s reactions written all over their faces.  Emotions flow freely in wedding ceremonies… be it the bride…

the grandmother…

or the parents.

We definitely had a sexy kiss at the end.  I even threw in a fist pump for good measure.  So there, Miss Manners!
