It’s Friday which means it’s flower day here at Elizabeth Anne Designs, but it’s also time to celebrate National Puppy Day! What’s a blogger to do? Feature puppies all dressed up in wedding flower collars to celebrate both, of course! These pups look picture perfect all dolled up.
There are a few flowers that are the superstars in our wedding world—peonies, hydrangea, garden roses, orchids—but it’s often the lesser-known flowers accompanying them who truly sell the feel of the arrangement. In our Friday Flowers feature, I want to highlight not only the superstars, but the flowers in supporting roles as well in hopes of guiding you brides out there still trying to narrow down exactly what they want for their big day. Today we have a flower who usually is seen as a filler to other flowers but that can also have a huge impact when it’s the star of the show—Astilbe!
Today’s flowers are truly a TGIF treat! While rounding up one of my absolute favorite flowers, there was one thing about dahlias that stuck out the most — the enormous size of certain types! Dahlias come in so many sizes, textures, and a ton of colors from bronze to pink to purple to orange to deep red to yellow, they can be used in an enormous variety of arrangements. The types that we’re featuring here today all fit in the A or AA category of dahlias, meaning they can be up to 12″ in diameter — there’s even a kind called “dinnerplate”! Dramatic and show-stopping, all these bouquets feature some very large dahlias and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Happy Friday everyone! Today we’ll be taking a look at another unique flower: scabiosa. It is commonly called “pincushion flower” because of its pincushion-like center. It comes in different shades like white, lavender, deep purple, red and pink. Both the petals and center of the flower are very unique and can add some fantastic texture into any arrangement!
There are so many beautiful flowers that pop up over the summer and lots of wonderful choices to use for summer weddings, and one of our favorites is the zinnia! Zinnias are full of texture and come in lots of warm and fun colors like pink, orange, red, yellow, fuchsia, and even some ombre shades. Take a look at these fantastic arrangements featuring zinnias and prepare to fall in love!
Hydrangeas are right up there with the most summery flowers, don’t you think? I love to walk around my neighborhood on a summer afternoon and check out the beautiful cloud-like hydrangea blooms in front of everyone’s houses. They come in a rainbow of colors: white, purple, pink, even green, but my all-time favorite are the blue! It’s no surprise that they are a popular choice for many brides. From bouquets of just a couple lone hydrangea blooms to larger arrangements where it’s just used as an accent, I love when blue hydrangea is used in weddings!
Orchids come in just about every size and every color imaginable. From bright greens to deep, rich purples, and from ruffled and frilled to sleek and modern, the variety of orchids spans just about as much as the variety of all flowers in general. Today I’d like to share one of my favorite types: Cattleya Orchids. Cattleyas themselves even come in a variety of colors, but we usually see them in a vivid white with a buttery or bright yellow center. Take a look at these gorgeous arrangements that feature Cattleyas:
I absolutely adore lavender—its color, smell, texture—so of course I love seeing it used in weddings! Wherever it’s used, its wonderful fragrance will surely add an extra dimension to the day. Even better that it’s known to be relaxing too! Who wouldn’t want a bit more relaxation on their wedding day?
There’s nothing that says spring to me more than when the sunny yellow daffodils start to bloom in my yard. From the standard bright yellow to more subtle white with peach, to the smaller or more ruffly versions, what I love the most about daffodils though is the variety that they come in. For a dose of sunshine or a touch of spring here are a variety of arrangements that include this cheery bloom!
Happy St. Patrick’s eve everyone! Today we’re celebrating with an ode to green! Beautifully neutral and natural, there are several flowers that come in various shades and textures of green: hydrangea, orchids, mums, tulips, roses, and bells of Ireland to name a few. Here are some of my favorites!
If you haven’t had the same sunshine and warmth we’ve had here in Philly, today’s flowers will certainly brighten your day! Crinkly, tissue-thin poppies are unique and full of personality. Not to mention, have you seen the scene in The Wizard of Oz? Even the Wicked Witch says they’re “attractive to the eye and soothing to the smell”! Ms. Witch’s poppies are red, but they come in vibrant oranges, warm corals, soft yellows, and many other colors. Check out these gorgeous arrangements as well as two fabulous poppy DIY projects at the end as well!
Bellissima! Today’s Italian garden party wedding shoot, designed by Brittany Lott of Elle Affairs, has us transported to Tuscany! The inspiration behind the shoot was the classic Tuscan alfresco dining experience, which was brought to life with the setting of Birmingham, Alabama’s La Tavalo. The beautiful outdoor table setting featured loose greenery, rosemary accents and olive oil favors, and we just adore the idea of an olive oil tasting bar—what could be more authentically Italian? The mix of modern and traditional elements was brought to life in the invitation suite from Jessica Stalkner at Empress Stationery and chic wrap bridesmaids dresses from Molly Green. And we are in love with the classic elegance of the gowns from Heidi Elnora. There’s so many details—and stunning images from Spindle Photography—to swoon over right here in the gallery!
We may be a bit fruit-obsessed lately (figs anyone?), but with all of the colorful autumn fruits, can you blame us? This week we are crushing on the pomegranate, and it’s easy to see why! Poms make gorgeous escort cards, are an interesting and unique addition to centerpieces and bouquets, and their rich pink-red color just screams autumn!
We love this fresh take on nautical style in weddings! Pale pink and gray stationery from Suite Paperie is still nautical-chic, but in a softer presentation than crisp navy and red. Dulce Dreams Events directed a stunning shoot filled with soft blooms from L’Oasis that fit right into the soothing color palette. With images from Alexis June Weddings and Cyrience Photography on a gorgeous old-school sailboat at Maritime Parc, we just can’t get enough of this chic and sophisticated setting! Staying true to the theme, Madison Lee’s Cakes used real seashells for the molds on the cake, and brown sugar created the illusion of sand. The model’s intricate GEMY by Gemy Maalouf gown is stunning! We’re in love with this shoot from top to bottom—see every last detail in the gallery!
There is so much gorgeous inspiration in this collaboration shoot between Kristyn Hogan and the talented team at Historic Cedarwood, and we love it all! Amber Housley created the lovely floral stationery and helped direct the styling of this bridal party tea in the garden. Eclectic linens from Urban Outfitters ground the tables for a collection vintage dishware and vases on top, filled with bold blooms and some of the prettiest teacups we’ve ever seen! The bridal party sipped pink Champagne from Le Grande Courtage while playing dress-up in amazing gowns from The Bride Room and accessories by Beatrice Couture Designs styled by Opulent Couturier. And aren’t you just in love with the playful side pony styled by Jessica Jones? Run, don’t walk, to the gallery to soak up all of the inspiration!
We are just gasping for breath over this gorgeous bohemian shoot from Tamiz Photography! All of the vintage decor mixed with romantic pink blooms and lacy vintage dresses are stunning! The romantic island style of long, loose waves crowned with floral hair wreaths gives away this Maui location, yet there’s something ethereal and placeless about it as well. And have you ever seen a tree swing so pretty? We want to teleport ourselves into this shoot right now, but instead we’ll settle for staring at it all afternoon in the gallery!
Elisabeth Carol Photography brings us today’s gorgeous inspiration in shades of emerald green and glittery gold, and it’s fabulous! Set outdoors at the Bell Tower Chapel & Garden in Ft. Worth, Texas, this ivory tablecloth is striped in the color scheme and accented with gold flatware and Chiavari chairs. We love! Stunning white bouquets by Events a la Carte are a big burst of sophistication among the other elements, coordinated by Borrowed & Blue. An ivory cake festooned with fresh flowers from Sweetie Mae’s Sweetcakes looks like an edible version of the pretty table arrangements. The strapless gown from David’s Bridal gets a touch of bling, too, from glittery ballet flats. Enjoy this pretty and sophisticated soiree!
This gorgeous and bright shoot from Alixann Loosle Photography makes us feel like we’ve been transplanted to the glorious Mediterranean region, which is why it’s so hard to believe it took place at the stunning La Caille in Sandy, Utah! We love the tropical feel of the bold flowers from Urban Chateau Floral, their cues taken from floral motif stationery by Alexis June Creative. The breathtaking design, by the always fabulous Michelle Leo Events, gets a playful touch from the cherry red scooter, which we adore! The gorgeous bride is a show-stopper in a romantic, flutter-sleeve gown—we are head over heels in love with all of the gorgeous images!
