In their own words

How did you meet?
We met 2 weeks after I moved to Atlanta from Birmingham, AL. Funny enough we met on a dating app (which I guess is totally normal these days!) and started talking, and went on our first date the next day and were never apart after that! We just clicked automatically and knew we were each other’s person.

What is your proposal story?
We had been talking about getting engaged, but Kyle knew that he was going to have to throw me off if he wanted to be able to surprise me. He was having my ring made by the same jeweler that had designed my mom’s ring over 30 years ago. We were heading to Charleston for one of my good friend’s weddings the weekend of September 15th, and had already planned on spending one night in Greenville, SC where his dad lives so that we could break up the drive. His dad was out of the country and had told Kyle we could stay in his condo in downtown Greenville, and we had dinner planned for that night at this pretty little French restaurant on the river that we had been to before and loved. Kyle had also booked us a room for the next night when we were in Charleston at the Vendue even though we had originally planned on staying with some friends. I told him that the Vendue looked like the perfect place to get engaged kind of teasing him, and he assured me that my ring wouldn’t be ready so I wasn’t expecting it at all when he got down on one knee at the restaurant in Greenville and asked me to marry him! And it was even more fun that we got to have a night together just the two of us and then head to Charleston the next day to celebrate our friend’s wedding and see all of our other friends and celebrate with them!

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
I think the most important thing to Kyle and I when we were planning was giving our guests an evening that they would remember and enjoy and I definitely think we accomplished that! I really wanted to transform the inside of the club’s ballroom and make it feel inviting and elegant so that’s why we added the draping to the ceiling and the beautiful linens to kind of warm up the room and make it our own. Our photographer was also something very important to us because we wanted pictures that we would love to look back on years from now, and Jennings did not disappoint! The pictures were incredible! We also wanted a band that would really get the party started and keep it going throughout the night and Big Night Dynamite definitely did that. People are still talking about them and that it was the best wedding band they had ever heard!

What were your favorite parts of the day?
The whole day was beyond my wildest dreams. I loved every moment so it’s hard to pick just one favorite memory or story. But some of the moments that stick out was when Kyle and I did our first look and then had our two Australian Shepherds Stella and Trooper join us for pictures, and the amazing sermon from our minister that he delivered as the sun was setting on the water, and dancing the night away with our family and friends.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
Hire a good wedding planner! I don’t know how you plan a wedding without one. Find a great photographer whose personality you love and whose pictures you love too so you will have wonderful memories to look back on. And try to enjoy the whole process and not get too stressed because it goes by so quickly and it will all come together and be perfect in the end!
