Although Meagan and Christian live and met in Connecticut, the couple made the endearing choice to wed in Christian’s home state of Michigan. Meagan initially had her heart set on a farm wedding, but once she laid her eyes on Planterra, Meagan knew they had found the venue for their November wedding. They kept the color palette in line with the conservatory’s own tropical feel, choosing bridesmaids dresses from Madeline’s Daughter in sage green. Florals like white ranunculus, polo roses, and secret garden roses alongside feather eucalyptus and jasmine vine created an eden for the newlyweds and their guests. Our favorite detail, though, has to be the oversized white balloons added to the tables at the reception. Meagan wanted a unique detail that really stood out and we’re so glad Kelly Sweet Photography was able to capture that and all of the other gorgeous details of this wedding so beautifully!
In their own words
How did you meet?
My husband and I met on Tinder. He is originally from Michigan and I am from Connecticut. He was attending the Coast Guard Academy which is located in Connecticut when we first met.
What is your proposal story?
It was spring break of 2018 and his family and mine went to Daytona Beach, Florida for the week. I suspected that maybe he was going to propose, but all week he hadn’t proposed. I didn’t think he’d propose our last night there, but that night all of us went out to dinner at a nice restaurant (Hyde Park) and as we were leaving, when we got out in front of the beach he popped the question!
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
The most important thing to us while planning was to create our dream wedding, and be able to look back on the photos and remember how beautiful our special day was. We decided to splurge on the venue and the flowers. Planterra is not a cheap place to get married, but it is worth every penny. Flowers are not cheap, and some weddings people choose to do centerpieces but we wanted long tables to make it seem more of a family style type dinner. So having runners with flowers placed throughout with candles was a way to add a romantic feel to our wedding.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
My favorite part of the day was the moment I turned the corner to walk down the aisle and to see the look on my husband’s face. It will be a memory that I will never forget. For the two of us, the other favorite part of the day was when dinner was being served, and we took a moment to just look around the room and embrace all the work that went into planning and to see all our family and friends smiling, laughing and enjoying the food, it was truly incredible.
Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
The advice I would give to couples planning their weddings now is to delegate, delegate, delegate. I cannot stress that enough. As the bride I tried to do everything on my own, so much so that my timeline for the rehearsal dinner and actual rehearsal overlapped. Thanks to one of my MOH, we fixed it. Delegate to people you trust. Delegate to your best man and MOH, that’s what they are there for! The other piece of advice is for the actual wedding. When you sit down to have dinner, take two minutes to the two of you to just look around and embrace all the love and support that surrounds you, and all the hard work you put into your special day, because it will fly by so fast.
