Modern Orange and Gray

This one was FUN!  Steffanie is getting married in July at the gorgeous Seattle Asian Art Museum.  She says:

Colors: vivid oranges, gray tones.  Ceremony+reception venue: Seattle Asian Art Museum (deco, urban, garden and… asian – ceremony at koi pond in front of museum, reception in tents and in the museum’s inner-courtyard. My fiance is not asian (I am) and we DON’T want to have an asian-type theme. We want: modern yet classic, garden yet luxurious… this starting to sound like an “opposites attract” theme!!

So here’s what I came up with.  I think it has the right mix for Steffanie – at first glance of the board there appears to be quite a bit of gray but it’s just in the accents and the natural decor of the building – the rest of the decor should be predominantly in her vivid orange tone.  To stick with her opposites attract theme, I think it’s important to use the orange in unexpected ways, such as in her tent lighting, but also in her floral arrangements, which should be very lush and whimsical to accomplish the “garden yet luxurious” vibe.

Steffanie is using tenting for her reception so she has plenty of options for table formations and decor.  I love the idea of long banquet tables with fresh orange centerpieces, a la Grace Ormonde.

With this color scheme – it’s so important to keep your linens, chairs, chargers, etc. neutral.  Orange is a very easy color to clash with, so the simpler the colors you pair with it, the better.  If you’re renting chairs, stick to a white, silver, or gold chiavari and keep your linens white and pattern-free.  Lots of candles will make that orange lighting in your tent really pop so make sure you fill the tables with them!

Gorgeous gray accents rule – love the idea of dressing your ladies in flowy sweet gray dresses (we listed tons of these in our [intlink id=”952″]post[/intlink] yesterday!).  And all of you could wear earrings with gray glass beads or pearls, such as these from Etsy seller Cymbaline84.

Carry your color scheme through your rehearsal dinner by wearing a light, feminine gray dress, giving your guests a peek into what’s to come!

And last but not least, don’t forget to serve orange martinis during your cocktail hour!  Signature drinks really help to save money and are a great way to carry out your color scheme.

I hope this helps Steffanie!  Your wedding sounds amazing and we can’t wait to see pictures afterwards (hint, hint)!
