Elegant Wedding at Biltmore Ballrooms

Meredith and Brinson’s vision for their wedding day was classic, elegant, and timeless. Meredith says “I wanted to be able to look back on our wedding 30 years from now and still love every detail,” and the moment they set eyes upon The Biltmore Ballrooms they knew it was the perfect venue for their Atlanta wedding. Working with Britain Lamon Events and Lindsay Coletta and a neutral color palette with pops of greenery, they designed their ceremony and reception to highlight the Ballrooms’ gorgeous interiors. The ceremony was special for many reasons, not the least of which was their officiant, “Dr. Bob”, 99 years young, a professor at UGA and one of Brinson’s close friends. Guests then enjoyed a spectacular evening noshing on dishes from Bold Catering & Design such as grilled peaches and dancing the night away to the tunes of Emerald Empire Band. We love every moment and know you will be smitten with the images from Rustic White Photography!

How did you meet?
Brinson and I met in the sixth grade after my family moved to the Atlanta area for my dad’s job. We had math class together in seventh grade and from there on out we were always great friends. A few months after graduating college we were both back in the Atlanta area and started hanging out like we always did when back home from school. This time was a little different though; we started getting together just he and I. I think it was then that we realized, “hmm, there might be a little something more here.” Since all of our friends are so close (our respective best friends are married to each other) we took things very slowly in the beginning. Meeting for a beer eventually turned into dinner and a movie which turned into trips to his family’s beach house which turned into 4 years later and the rest is history!

What is your proposal story?
Brinson travels a lot for work and this week was unlike any other. Brinson had been in Argentina working for the past two weeks. He left the night after we purchased and closed on our first home. While he was away I was busy working and starting to put together our new home. As most couples know there comes a time in the relationship where every event, holiday, anniversary, etc you start to think, “Is this the day he will propose?” Well, Brinson being who he is took that into consideration and man did he completely throw me off.

It was Thursday, 7/22/2016, and Brinson landed early that morning home from Argentina. I was so excited to see him. It had been 14 days and we had barely been able to enjoy our new home together, but that weekend we were headed to Oxford, MS to watch Georgia play Ole Miss and I still needed something to wear! I got off work and immediately called him to let him know I couldn’t wait to see him, but I had to find an outfit. Well a 30 minute shopping trip turned into 2 hours- I told you I was completely clueless. Finally I find something and rush home to Brinson. He is of course waiting on me with a huge hug and kiss after I walk through the door.

As we walk further into the house he says, “I need to show you something,” and leads me out to our screened porch. He has the entire porch covered in roses and orchids, candles lit and soft music playing. In our new home, he gets down on one knee and asks, “Meredith, will you marry me?” Of course I say absolutely, 100% yes, but the story doesn’t end there.

Remember we were headed to Oxford, MS to for the Georgia / Ole Miss game? Well, this was our chance to surprise our closest friends and my sisters with our exciting news. My parents, his parents and brother and a select few close family friends already knew, but I could not wait to tell everyone else! When we arrived in Oxford we met my family for lunch and I’m pretty sure all of Mississippi heard my 3 sisters scream when they finally realized the ring on my finger. A couple hours later we went to the house we rented with our friends for the weekend and were met with an equally excited and joyful reaction. It was so fun getting to surprise my friends and family after being completely surprised myself!

What was the most important to you when planning?
I would say the most important part to us while we were planning was reminding ourselves (especially me) that when it’s all said and done we are planning the most joyous day that brings all of our family and friends together. It was really important to consciously make an effort not to get too caught up in all of the details that go into the planning months because it really can cause a lot of stress!
