Classic Wedding at the Vinoy St Petersburg

Meghan says “I was never the girl that had dreams of my wedding and had everything planned out! But I did come to the realization, very quickly, that I wanted it to be simple, elegant and FULL of candlelight.” With this simple but classic ambiance in mind, Meghan and Josh enlisted NK Productions Wedding Planning to bring their vision to life. The couple fell in love with the ornate details of The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club. The resort reflects the grandeur of a golden age, and NK Productions and Victoria Blooms accentuated the venue’s charm with florals of ivory and white set in glittering gold vessels, loads of candlelight, and a spectacular ivy ceremony backdrop that was the perfect setting for the couple’s outdoor ceremony. Binaryflips Photography captured the simple, modern elegance to perfection and we know you’ll be as smitten as we are!

How did you meet?
Joshua and I met at work. When I first moved up to Sarasota, one of Joshua’s best friends, Jordan, moved down from New Jersey for the same job. He introduced us and we ended up living together for almost 2 years. As our friendship grew, we spent a lot of time with Joshua and his roommate (who later married one of my good friends!). We quickly realized we had more of a connection than that of just friends. Once we had begun dating, I asked him to attend both of my sisters’ weddings which were coming up within the next 3 months. Josh mingled with my entire family like he had known them for years.

What is your proposal story?
On Christmas, Meghan and Josh opened a “gift from her parents” for a helicopter tour which would take place the next day. They were both so excited, but unbeknownst to Meghan it was all a set up. On the entire car ride up to Ft. Myers, Josh complained about his stomach ache (this, of course, was not shocking) and he ended up in the bathroom at the airport for about 20 minutes. Little did Meghan know he was just hiding out until the helicopter arrived. Once in the helicopter they took a gorgeous tour of downtown Ft. Myers and ended up at Lover’s Key. Josh asked the pilot if they could land and take a few photos at sunset. Josh jumped out and Meghan “gracefully” followed. They snapped a few selfies and then Josh began to tell Meghan how much he loved her. What came next was a smooth operator line that Josh had been waiting to use on Meghan since the day they met. Josh turned to Meghan and said “I love you so much, but there is only one thing I want to change about you.” Meghan, who was very much caught off guard by that, said “like what?”. Josh proceeded to get down on one knee and responded “Your last name.” Tears flew and of course, she said YES! Meghan heard screams and cheers down the beach and found family and friends waiting at the gazebo! It was a this point that Meghan was told that Josh hadn’t been sick in the bathroom but was being mic’d up for the videographer who was capturing everything! Needless to say, the night was a HUGE celebration. It was quite the Christmas for us!

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
Joshua and I agreed to the 3 most important pieces of the wedding very quickly. First, the venue had to be unique and be a place that all of our friends and family would be ecstatic to spend a long weekend in. Second, the food had to be delicious! Lastly, and most importantly, we needed a band that could energize the entire night! I may be biased, but I think we nailed all three.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?
My favorite pieces of the wedding were given to us by our families. Joshua was gifted his father’s Rolex watch that topped off his attire perfectly. My mother lent me the bracelet that she wore to her wedding and both of my sisters wore during their special days as well. My Aunt Vicki brought me her handkerchief she’s had for years and carried on her wedding day to my amazing Uncle Chic. Lastly, years ago when my mother was deciding what to do with her wedding gown, she removed strands of lace from it. On each of our wedding days, my sisters and I all wrapped our bouquets with that lace and it’s always been such a special touch. We’ve all saved that lace so we can hopefully pass it along to our children.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
The best piece of advice we have is DO IT YOUR WAY! Make a list of the things that are the most important to you both and don’t let anyone’s opinions sway what you want! You will look back on that day and totally forget about all of the hours you spent deciding what font you wanted on place menus or how you were distraught over not getting the paper stock you really wanted – I PROMISE.
