Colorful + Elegant Lowndes Grove Wedding

Coastal whimsy and Southern chic meld perfectly in Martha and Will’s Charleston wedding at Lowndes Grove Plantation. The couple enlisted Sweetgrass Social to bring their Lowcountry inspiration to reality with an oyster-theme soiree. From an oyster roast rehearsal dinner to oyster chandeliers and garlands at the reception, every detail was perfectly thought out by On A Limb Floral Designs and Sweetgrass Social. Martha also shares “My mother always told me she was going to wear coral to my wedding, so the color coral was incorporated throughout to feel the sense of her presence.” The unexpected and chic color palette of blue, gold, white, green, and pops of coral and fuchsia is so fresh and unique! The whole day is absolutely stunning, and the love that Martha and Will share is infectious and beautifully captured by Jennings King Photography!

What is your proposal story?
Easter Sunday he surprised me after church by coming to the town where I grew up, Florence, SC. I walked into my Father’s home and saw him standing in my Mother’s garden with flowers. (A special place, my Mother passed 5 years ago). He gave me a gift, a needle-pointed key chain with what would be my new initials and a flower. In this realization he then got on one knee! The rest was happy tears and sweet words!

What were your favorite parts of the day?
How do you choose? Getting to see Will for the first time, dancing with my father, getting ready all day with my favorite ladies, or the surprise carriage ride exit that we took all the way to the Wentworth Mansion (we spent our wedding night). That was a wonderful ride for about 30 minutes of a slow pace quiet Charleston where we could reflect on the amazing day and night over champagne together.

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.
The gifts given to eachother: Will gave me a frame that had flowers from my Mothers garden he had hand picked and the framemaker preserved with a beautiful stamp entitling it “Nancy’s Garden”. I gave Will a gold belt buckle with initials and alligator belt from Croghan’s, they engraved the back “the ride of our lives”…in the note I wrote “buckle up and let’s begin the ride of our lives”.
