Romantic Wedding at the Ringling Museum

The Ringling Museum is Sarasota’s most spectacular setting, so when Kim and Christian conveyed their vision to NK Productions Wedding Planning, they chose to accentuate the courtyard with lush greenery, white blooms, and pops of burgundy blooms. Victoria Blooms mixed anemones, garden roses, and delphinium to create a romantic, organic feel underneath trees festooned with chandeliers. The scrumptious cake from The Cake Zone was half key lime and half mango—true Florida flavors!—and featured a blue ombre design to add a pop of whimsy and color to the warm and neutral reception. We wish we were basking in the Florida sun and are spellbound by the gorgeous images by Justin DeMutiis Photography!

Outdoor Reception in Sculpture Garden

How did you meet?
We both went to Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. I played volleyball and he played rugby. We crossed paths a ton (small school, only 1700 students), and had a lot of mutual friends, but we didn’t officially meet until 1 month before I graduated college. We met at a college party, so as much as I wish I had a romantic tale to describe how we first met, that’s what we have! :)

What is your proposal story?
I was really stressed out at work, so Christian suggested that I take a personal day and we’d go out to lunch and enjoy a day off. I was excited about a day off, so I agreed. We went to lunch near the water, and afterwards we were full so Christian suggested we walk around the bayfront park near the restaurant to walk some of the food off. When we got to the fountain, Christian got down on one knee (with a shirtless tourist sitting right behind him) and apparently had my sister hiding in a bush to take pictures and my mom across the bayfront also taking pictures.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
The most important part to us was that our guests felt like they were a part of the wedding, not just watching it if that makes sense. We didn’t want our wedding to feel stuffy or unwelcoming, so we just wanted to make it as fun for everyone as possible. Our planner was one splurge that we have absolutely no regrets about. She was amazing from the beginning until the end, and made the entire process stress-free for both of us. One thing we decided to skip (small detail) was the champagne toast. It was a pretty huge cost for something that not everyone would even indulge in. We had a much younger crowd at our wedding (more friends than family) and we would rather have had our friends drinking what they wanted from the bar.

What were your favorite parts of the day?
Really the whole thing was our favorite, but it was amazing to have all of our friends and family in the same place to celebrate our big day! A few moments that stuck out to us: Right after our first dance, and the father/daughter dance we played the first slow song of the night and opened it up for everyone to join us. It felt like every single person was on the dance floor and we could barely move from the spot we were standing but we really felt all the love at that moment with all of our family and friends surrounding us. After our ceremony, Christian and I made sure that we got a few minutes to ourselves to take everything in while everyone else was out front at our cocktail hour. We got to go look at the reception area and all the decorations, and just have a moment together to breathe. You never think about how little time you get to spend alone with your spouse during your wedding day itself, so to have even 10 minutes alone to take in what had just happened was really special and something we’ll never forget!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
Take every moment in! It goes by quickly, especially the day/night of the wedding- but even the planning process. It seems like forever leading up to it, but it’ll be over in the blink of an eye. & make sure you set aside time to spend time alone with your husband/wife during the wedding day/night to soak it all in. Also, when it’s all over, the details that you thought mattered may not have ended up being worth it- splurge on the memories that will last- photographer, videographer, and the lasting impression on your guests- DJ and food!
