Chic Seaside Wedding on Kiawah Island

Kasey and Sean wanted a relaxed, carefree atmosphere for their destination wedding, so they selected The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island to host their early summer soiree. Working with Yoj Events to plan from afar, they created a classic, timeless feel with a seaside color palette. Kasey found her “dream dress” in a sophisticated Pronovias lace gown, and Sean selected a classic blue suit. We love this beautiful waterside wedding and all of the gorgeous moments captured by Jennings King Photography!

In their own words

How did you meet?
Sean and I met at a bar in Chicago when I was visiting my sister for the weekend. I was living in New York City at the time and his “pick-up line” was, “Are you a Chicago girl?” so it was perfect. We hit it off that night and ended up going for a walk along the lakefront. Sean coincidentally was going to be in New York City the next weekend so we met up again when he was in town and then started dating long distance.

What is your proposal story?
Sean proposed on New Years Eve 2016 and I was totally surprised. We didn’t have any plans for New Years (or so I thought) but I didn’t think anything of it when he at the last minute happened to have dinner reservations. Before dinner, he suggested we go for a walk and we ended up on the same path as the walk we took the night we met. Around the holidays, the park nearby is all lit up with Christmas lights so it was absolutely magical. After he got down one on knee and I cried with joy, we walked to the bar where we met to celebrate!

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
The most important part was that our guests had a ton of fun so the music was really important to us. We ended up picking a fantastic band and it really set the stage for a great party! Since a lot of our guests were coming in from out of town, we wanted to make sure they had a stocked welcome bag with suggestions of things to do on the island and goodies from the area that they could enjoy as soon as they arrived.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
My advice for couples planning a wedding is to make your opinion is heard and that you do what you and your fiance want instead of doing what other people want you to do. There are plenty of people during the planning process that will have opinions on what they think you should do, but ultimately it’s your day that you’ll remember forever so you want it to be uniquely yours. Prioritize what are the most important decisions to you both and then don’t sweat the small details that aren’t as important.
